|

|
Hello-
I am planning on installing the latest GEAR drivers on this page:
http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers/index.cfm
To attempt to fix some problems I am having with iTunes. I see that users of iTunes 4.2 are supposed to use the drivers with gearsec...
My question is: Can users with versions of iTunes NEWER than 4.2 use the updated drivers, or should ALL iTunes users (I currently have 4.7) use the older gearsec drivers.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
-Sean |

Sean,
iTunes is regularly updated by Apple, and it would include the most updated version of the GEAR CD engine and drivers.
Older iTunes versions will require the older version of our drivers. Newer versions can use the latest GEAR drivers.
If you have a specific problem, we strongly recommend that you go to Apple's iTunes Support, to let them know the details, and to see if other users have reported anything similar.
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/
I hope this helps you. If not, let us know more details about your configuration, and the problem.

Thanks Tom-
Wow, working on a Saturday??? I hope they pay you well!
Thanks for the information, as it is what I was looking for. I try to help out on the Apple iTunes tech support forums, and some people have experienced various problems installing or using iTunes that ended up with error messages referencing GEARAspiWDM, or incorrect iTunes drivers for their optical drives. I was going to suggest that they reinstall the Gear drivers for your site, but just wanted to make sure that I recommended the correct download.
I suppose I could have put all of that informatin in the original post Thanks again!

I have iTunes 4.6 on Windows XP Home and this post led me to the GEAR works driver since it was my exact problem:
http://ralphpoole.typepad.com/ralphknows/2004/08/i_fixed_the_reg.html
I downloaded and tried to install the latest driver and got this pop up:
16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
[CLOSE][IGNORE]
If I choose close or ignore nothing seems to happen... the same iTunes problem exists. The other GEAR works driver had the same message. Now I can't uninstall iTunes!!! I get a brief install shield pop up from add/remove programs control panel; it goes away and iTunes stays.
What did I do wrong and what (if anything) can I do to fix??

dugfresh,
With Winzip installed, please try the following:
1. Using Windows Explorer, create a new empty directory.
2. Using Windows Explorer again, find where you download GEAR's installer.
3. Right click on the installer and select Winzip --> Extract to...
4. Select the directory you create as the location to extract to.
5. Using Windows Explorer, view that directory
6. Double left click the setup.exe file.
If you do not have Winzip, you can download it here:
