Hi Gear team,

... and suddenly I came to an end with the DVD production when I noticed that it isn't possible to put Macrovision protection on my DVD.

Can anyone tell me when this option will be available in Gear Pro Mastering Edition?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Tom,

Thanks a lot.

It's like.. everybody knows how to crack DVD protections, but companies like EMI Music, Sony Pictures and Disney tell me to put protection on DVD's because of legal and political reasons. So they did everything to protect their discs when, for example, they're in court against DVD pirates.

Cheers,
Chris

Can you set the Macrovision flags in your authoring software?
I am not 100% sure about this, but it Should work if you set the flag for Macrovision (select what type you need) in authoring, and create a folder for outputting to DLT or DDP Disc in GEAR?

Tom? Would this work?

Macrovision also carries a per-disc royalty, which is not cheap.
All you need to add for stating your intentions to copy protect so that it will stand up in court is CSS.
That is sufficient to show you don't want copies made.
If you are after the best security you can get - then you should add ARcoSS.
You'll need to have this done at replication - and best of all you do not need to set any flags at all.

Hi Neil,

I use DVD-Lab Pro and as you know it can't set a Macrovision flag. I'm aware of the costs and legal stuff, but it's my customer's demands and they pay for the protection.

Cheers,
Chris

DVD-Lab Pro can't, but our other authoring packages we use can (Adobe's EncoreDVD).
However, I completely agree with you on this - it would be great to see this option in GEAR. I was just trying to think of a workaround.

FWIW, I still think that ARcoSS is better for your clients, as it's more effective & doesn't need a flag setting. Just my opinion though.

Re DLP - have you asked Oscar about adding this? Can't hurt to ask, I guess.
