| We are using both Gear Pro Unix and Gear Pro Linux. When burning with the same brand and type media we experience much slower DVD burn rates on the system wirh Gear Pro Linux. Gear Pro says they are both burning at 4x. Both systems have 1gb Ram. The Gear Pro Unix sytem is a Sunblade 150 workstation running Solaris 9 patches with last weeks Sun patch bundle and Gear Pro 5.0, June 11, 2004. The Gear Pro Linux system is Dell 370 workstartion with 2 SATA 80gb drives hardware mirrored, RedHat WS 3.0 with the latest patches and Gear Pro Linux 5.0, June 11, 2004. |

eds_opsware,
What is the recorder that you are using? What is the firmware for these devices? |

eds_opsware,
GEAR's auto-detection will use the fastest speed possible for the media used or the recorder; whichever of the two is lower. Example: if the media supports x4 but the recorder supports x8, x4 will be used. If a drive is not specifically entered in the configuration file, GEAR will try to determine what the maximum. This may vary depending on whether or not media is present when the recorder is queried. This is why it is important to have the latest configuration files. The latest configuration files can be found here:
