| Mad Dog Multimedia is offering great deals on DVD drives that are repackaging of NEC drives. I have the MD-16X3DVD9-8X which I understand is an NEC 4550A. MD puts their own firmware in so it looks to the system like an MD drive not an NEC. That means I can't use it with Norton Ghost. Any way to deal with this? |

They (Mad Dog) probably just updated the FW so that the device returns MadDog MD-16X3DVD9-8X instead of NEC ND-4550A for a device enquiry. The rest of the firmware is very likely identical to the NEC firmware.
The drive is most likely supported by GEAR and by Ghost. If it is not on the supported recorders list, it will probably still be supported |
