My G4 Mac will burn a dl dvd with toast titanium with one click
what is all this messing around with sectors and layers? I need a good burner for my XP PC but I can't seem to find one. (as usual) |

There are plenty of software applications for Windows that can burn dual-layer media.
GEAR strives to give 'a professional level of control' to our users.
Setting the layer-break on DVD-Video titles can be crucial for 'seamless playback', placing files that will be accessed more frequently on the first layer (Layer0) on dual-layer media for faster access times.
There are many more reasons why the features GEAR offers are suitable for a more 'hands on' approach to DVD recording/mastering. |

For a good burner, use Pioneer.
Make sure the firmware is up to date.
You'll find that being able to set the correct layer break is critical - GEAR will default to one, as will toast, but it will almost certainly be in the wrong place - unless the original image was created properly.
If all you want to do is clone what you have, then try the freeware app IMGburn. |

what I've had the most trouble with was writing a 7giga byte data file.
I just can't seem to get a DL to write. I finally split the data and recombined on my Mac to get it all on a DL |

Did you try that freeware app at all?
It's supposed to be really good with DL media.
I have to admit I've not had any trouble getting GEAR to write to DL media though - but it is important to use High Quality media - doubly so with DL. |
