| Is it necessary to close (fixate) the disc to view the contents of the disc for every burn? |

What type of disc are you recording?
Multisession?
Variable Packet Writing?

Generally speaking, yes.
If you intend to read the disc on a machine other than the machine with GEAR installed, you should close the session.
On the recorder settings dialog (press F3) you will see the options for:
Recoring Method:
| Code: |
[Disc at once [↓]
[Raw Disc at once [↓]
[Track at once [↓]
|
and
| Code: | [√] Close Disc as multisession
[√] Fixate disc for use in CD-ROM |
You'll notice that the Fixate disc for use in CD-ROM checkbox is only available when using Track at once, because writing in Disc at once with [√] Close Disc as multisession will by spec close the session.
Unless you're writing Audio-CD tracks and intend to add more audio tracks, you should use Disc at once recording.
Note: Most set-top Audio-CD players cannot read multisession audio. Adding more audio tracks to a single session audio-CD would not be a multisession disc - but this should be done using Track at once recording.
If you do NOT use | Code: | | [√] Close Disc as multisession | the session AND the disc will be closed and further recording is not possible |

Some recorders allow reading/writing of the CD sub-code channels.
If your recorder supports this function, you will be able to read/write the sub-code on the disc.
For example, karaoke CD+G discs have the on-screen graphics stored in the sub-code, and these discs should be written with RAW Disc-at-once.
NOTE: Not all CD recorders support RAW Disc-at-Once recording |
