Digital Video. A consumer and professional digital video encoding format that is usually recorded on Mini-DV tapes (consumer systems) or DV tapes (professional). This format offers high quality encoding in a 25 Megabit per second data stream. Most DV devices support Firewire connections. For instance, DV camcorder can connect to personal computers through Firewire to allow the video and audio to be transferred without any loss of quality. DV must be transcoded to MPEG-2 video in order to be used on a DVD.
