A high capacity disc format that has several variations, including DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, and DVD-Audio. DVD includes a variety of capacities and physical formats. The acronym came initially from the term Digital Video Disc. It was later suggested that since these discs could store ROM data or Audio the acronym should stand for Digital Versatile Disc, but this was never adopted by the official DVD Forum.
