FIRMWARE: Upgrading
From GEAR Software Knowledgebase
Firmware is a category of memory chips that hold their content without electrical power and include ROM, PROM, EPROM and EEPROM technologies. Firmware becomes "hard software" when holding program code. New firmware for a recorder can usually be found on the drive manufacturer's website in their support section.
Updating the firmware on a CD/DVD recorder may increase and/or improve the drive capabilities, i.e. support higher speed media and new media types
