CD/DVD drives not showing up in Windows Explorer/My Computer and GEAR Software and/or GEAR Powered Products

Possibly due to type of UpperFilters registry entry in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} being incorrect (eg REG_SZ instead of REG_MULTI_SZ)

Run GEAR Driver installer and reboot.

If this does not resolve the issue, manually edit registry:

START > Run... regedit

  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  • Rename UpperFilters entry to UpperFilters_backup
  • Create new entry of type REG_MULTI_SZ (multi-string value) In Registry Editor, click Edit -> New -> Multi-String Value
  • Name new entry UpperFilters
  • Add values that are in UpperFilters_backup to new entry by double clicking it and typing in values that are in UpperFilters_backup.
  • Make sure GEARAspiWDM values is entered so that it is after the 'redbook' value (if it existed UpperFilters_backup) but before any Roxio driver values ('Cdralw2k' and 'pwd_2k, if they existed), and a carriage return after each value, including last one.
  • Reboot.
