Applies to Products: All Windows

Applies to Operating Systems: All Windows

Summary:
Many brands of CD and DVD recorders use mechanisms built by other manufacturers.

Because of this it is possible that a device may not appear as being supported in the Supported Recorders list, but because it uses a mechanism that is supported, the device is also supported.

Discussion:
To find out if an un-listed device is supported, the device's Vendor and Product ID need to be found.
This can be done via the operating system.

Win2000 and WinXP

  • Right-click 'My Computer' and select 'Properties' from the resulting menu
  • Select the 'Hardware' tab in the 'System Properties' dialog, and open the 'Device Manager'
  • Open the 'DVD/CD-ROM' drives item in the 'Device Manager'
  • A list of all reader and writer devices will be shown
  • The manufacture's name will be the Vendor ID part of the device's ID string and the rest of the string will be the Product ID

NT40

  • Open the 'Control Panel' in the Start → Settings menu
  • Select the SCSI Adapters item
  • On the 'Devices' tab, open either the 'SCSI' controler item if using a SCSI device or one of the 'IDE/ATAPI' items if using an IDE, USB or FireWire device
  • A list of all reader and writer devices attached to that bus will be shown.
  • The manufacture's name will be the Vendor ID part of the device's ID string and the rest of the string will be the Product ID

Win9x

  • Right-click 'My Computer' and select 'Properties' from the resulting menu
  • Select the 'Device Manage' tab in the 'System Properties' dialog
  • Open the 'CDROM' item in the 'Device Manager'
  • A list of all reader and writer devices will be shown
  • The manufacture's name will be the Vendor ID part of the device's ID string and the rest of the string will be the Product ID

Search for the Vendor and Product ID in the Supported Recorderslist.
