Known Issues / Resolutions
GEAR licenses our CD/DVD recording "drivers" to many other companies to add CD/DVD recording capabilities to their software products.
Below are some common issues users of these GEAR Powered Products experience, and solutions for them.
Note: All GEAR Software products – including the GEAR drivers – are fully Vista compatible.
It is known that non-Vista compatible software installed on Windows Vista computers can cause compatibility issues with Vista and other Vista-compatible software. These non-Vista compatible software applications installed under Vista may prevent the GEAR drivers from loading properly – thus you may experience CD/DVD recording errors when using Vista if non-Vista compatible software is installed along with a GEAR Software product, or a GEAR Powered Product.

- Installing the 32-bit version of iTunes on x64 hardware running a 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista will result in the iTunes application not having CD/DVD recording capabilities
- Installing the 64-bit version of iTunes on x86 hardware running a 32-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista will likely result in the iTunes installation failing
- Installing the 64-bit version of iTunes after uninstalling the 32-bit version of iTunes on x64 hardware running a 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista may not provide CD/DVD recording capabilities within iTunes.
You may need to manually remove the 32-bit GEAR drivers. After removing the 32-bit version of iTunes and the 32-bit GEAR drivers from your computer, please install the 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows from the iTunes download page on the Apple website.
The 32-bit and 64-bit versions of iTunes for Windows are available on the iTunes download page on the Apple website.
- Manually removing the GEAR drivers involves modifying the Windows Registry.
- We highly recommend making a backup if you choose to modify the Windows Registry.
- Any mistakes made when modifying the Windows Registry can render your entire system inoperable.
