Known Issues / Resolutions

GEAR licenses our CD/DVD recording "drivers" to many other companies to add CD/DVD recording capabilities to their software products.

Below are some common issues users of these GEAR Powered Products experience, and solutions for them.

Note: All GEAR Software products – including the GEAR drivers – are fully Vista compatible.

It is known that non-Vista compatible software installed on Windows Vista computers can cause compatibility issues with Vista and other Vista-compatible software. These non-Vista compatible software applications installed under Vista may prevent the GEAR drivers from loading properly – thus you may experience CD/DVD recording errors when using Vista if non-Vista compatible software is installed along with a GEAR Software product, or a GEAR Powered Product.

¹ AMD64 / Intel 64 (EM64T)
² Apple has released a 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows

  • Installing the 32-bit version of iTunes on x64 hardware running a 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista will result in the iTunes application not having CD/DVD recording capabilities
  • Installing the 64-bit version of iTunes on x86 hardware running a 32-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista will likely result in the iTunes installation failing
  • Installing the 64-bit version of iTunes after uninstalling the 32-bit version of iTunes on x64 hardware running a 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista may not provide CD/DVD recording capabilities within iTunes.
You may need to manually remove the 32-bit GEAR drivers. After removing the 32-bit version of iTunes and the 32-bit GEAR drivers from your computer, please install the 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows from the iTunes download page on the Apple website.

The 32-bit and 64-bit versions of iTunes for Windows are available on the iTunes download page on the Apple website.

Note:
We highly recommend making a backup if you choose to modify the Windows Registry.
Any mistakes made when modifying the Windows Registry can render your entire system inoperable.
