Applies to Products: GEAR Pro Mastering Edition 8.10 and GEAR Pro Professional Edition 8.10

Applies to Operating System: Windows Vista, 7

Symptoms

GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10 and GEAR PRO Professional Edition 8.10 do not see one or more CD/DVD drives and/or work correctly with drives on Windows Vista, 7, 8

Cause

GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10 and GEAR PRO Professional Edition 8.10 is configured on installation to default to the IMAPI/Miniport interface for CD/DVD drives. Sometimes the IMAPI/Miniport interface fails to detect and properly configure CD/DVD devices on the system.

Solution

You should be able to revert back to the GEARAspi interface as follows:

  • Check if the GEARAspi driver set is installed and running: Determining if GEARAspi drivers are installed correctly
  • If it is not, install it via this installer: http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.php
  • Open the GEAR.ini file in C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\GEAR PRO Mastering[Professional] Edition 8.10\ with notepad.
  • Search for ImapiFound and set it to FALSE.
  • Search for all instances of CDRInterface and set them to 2.
  • Save and close the gear.ini file.
  • Run GEAR PRO Mastering Edition or GEAR PRO Professional Edition
  • For each drive get its settings, and on the Driver tab verify that the driver being used for the drive is GEARAspi (cyclical buffering)
